Sambalpur: Demand for Central University status for Sambalpur University is once again going to be intensified
Sambalpur: The demand for central university status for Sambalpur University is once again going to be intensified. The demand for central status has been cleared by the Association of Students and Teachers (ASET). In a press conference held today, ASET has announced to carry forward vigorous protest. Asset has announced today that it will meet both the Chief Minister and the Prime Minister if no action is taken by the Government of India by the end of next October.
Addressing a press conference today, former MP Bhavani Shankar Hota said, “The deadline was 1st January 2003 to the end of October 2003. Asset has been raising this claim for the past 20 years. The institute has earned many reputations in the fields of education, research, sports, and culture. It has been going through a land crisis for many years. Even the number of teachers and staff is decreasing day by day. However, this university has managed to get the appropriate grade from the NAAC committee.
In the field of basic research, its availability is no less than any other university in the country, Mr. Hota said. In 2004, the Chief Minister also recommended to the Centre. As the current Union Education Minister is from Odisha, the principal secretary of the Prime Minister is an alumnus of this institution, so there is hope to fulfill this demand, said the ASET. Therefore, all organizations are called to come forward to fulfill this demand. The ASET has informed that an alternative approach will be taken if no positive steps are taken by the government within a month. Besides, it was decided to meet the Prime Minister and the Chief Minister to express the demand.
