Sambalpur: Gang of mobile thieves arrested, 24 phones recovered

Rengali: Sambalpur District Rengali police station arrested a five-member mobile phone theft gang and recovered 24 phones from them. While mobile theft is increasing day by day in Rengali industrial area, it will be curbed after the gang is caught, SDPO Pradeep Sahu said in a press conference held at Rengali on Friday.

According to the police, Sanjeev Gardia (19) of Pandaloi village area works in the guest house of Shyam Metalilics in Pandaloi. Last night on 3rd , while he was sleeping, three miscreants broke into his room and snatch his mobile phone. However, Sanjeev recognized the thieves and lodge a complaint in Rengali Police Station. A case was registered Case No.146/22 and according to Sanjeev’s information, Tapan Gardia (23) of Old Basti under Rengali police station, Abinash Bagh (20) and Ashok Pan (26) of Ludhapali village were arrested. Sanjeev’s mobile was also recovered from them.

After questioning the said three persons, they admitted to stealing a large number of mobiles from Rengali area. As a result, a team under the leadership of police officer Dhabaleshwar Sahoo, under the direction of Sambalpur SP, raided various places throughout the night and arrested 2 more accused, Rajkumar Bagh (22) and Sudashanshu Bhainusa (33) of Old Basti and recovered 24 mobiles. All the accused have been arraigned today. Around 15 owners of mobiles have been identified and their phones have been returned, while others will be returned soon, police said.
