Sambalpur: Illegal road work is being done in Durgapali Pond near SMC, Cut down a huge tree
Sambalpur: Huge Trees were cut down near the edge of the pond for roads on private land. Buried the pond to take the road. After first cutting the branches of the tree, now they have cleaned it from the roots. Sambalpur Metropolitan Corporation was not aware of the ongoing construction of the road even after the news was published. It is alleged that the tree would not have cut if vigilant about it. On the other hand, even after cutting down the trees for a long time, the forest department remains unattended. The two departments are still silent about cutting trees for illegal road construction.
Illegal road work is being done in Durgapali Bandh near Sambalpur Metropolitan Corporation. A road is being made in it by digging the pond. Yet as no action is being taken, one after another such illegal activities are taking place. Chaitanya Kumbhar of that area said such illegal work is happening regularly. Being a powerful man, no one is protesting. Many people used to rely on this pond. They used its water for bathing and other things. Even so, there was a special attraction of the people because of the Lotus blossoms here. But day by day, due to lack of maintenance, the pond became dirty. Some unscrupulous people have taken advantage of it. He said that since there is no road to his private land, he is now making a road by burying the pond. It is the indifference of the SMC and the forest department that promotes such work.
Despite repeated demands to restore the pond, it has not been done which is opposed by the common people. People have demanded that the road be removed soon and the pond should be rebuilt. Meanwhile, the SMC has said that the incident will be investigated as no response has been received from the forest department. Even so, earlier the SMC had ordered the demolition of the road, but the man who was building it was not agreed.
