Sambalpur: In GM University, there are no professors in 20 to 23 departments, and 75 teaching posts are vacant
Where is the Growth & Progress of higher education?
Sambalpur: Gangadhar Meher University (GMU), one of the leading educational institutes in Western Odisha, is facing a shortage of teachers. All posts of professors and lecturers are vacant. The situation has been such that for the past few years teaching has been going on with the hope of guest lecturers. However, due to some reasons, the appointment of a guest lecturer could not be made this time after several months after the commencement of the academic year. Due to the lack of the required number of teachers, students are deprived of good teaching. Dissatisfaction is increasing among the students and parents regarding this.
According to the information received, Gangadhar Meher University has 23 departments. 6,200 students are currently studying from undergraduate to Ph.D. courses. Out of these 23 departments, 20 departments do not have a single professor. That means, 20 departments are empty of professors. Only physics, political science, and Hindi departments have one professor each. So, Sadan Kumar Pal, a professor in the Hindi Department, will retire from the job in the coming month of November. This means, after the next few days Hindi department professor will become vacant. On the contrary, there are 144 faculty posts sanctioned for Gangadha’s Meher University, while only 69 regular faculty members are working.
