Sambalpur : Kidney Disease spread in villages of Jujumura block, People are leaving village to save their families

Jujumura: Kidney disease has spread in many villages of Jujumura block of Sambalpur district. Many lives gone due to Kidney disease. People are now leaving their villages to save their families from the dreaded kidney disease. Houses are locked. Such a situation has been seen in Gaudgoth village under Nuabarangamal panchayat.

During the last few years, the number of kidney patients is increasing in various villages under Nuabarangamal and Jhankarpali panchayats of Jujumura block. Many patients in this village have died of infectious diseases in the last few years. The villagers complaint that the water in this area is high in fluoride and many suffer from kidney disease after drinking it. In the past, a survey was conducted by the health department in some villages of this region and many kidney patients were identified. However, it is alleged that no concrete steps have been taken at the government level to diagnose and treat these patients. Some time ago there were more than a hundred people living in this Gaudgoth village. Now the population of this village has reduced to 76.

Seeing this situation, Dhanpati Bhoi left the village of Gaudgoth and is now living in the house of a relative of his family. His house in Gaudgoth is now locked. Similarly, Sanat Bhoi has gone to Brahmanipali with the baby of 2 months. Antaryami Bhoi’s family has moved to the ruling area and some other people are planning to move elsewhere, the villagers said. A few years ago, 7 people died of kidney disease in Hatibari. In Khairmal village of Nuabarangamal panchayat, 17 people died of kidney disease during last year 2018-2020. In the meantime, 3 people have died prematurely, besides these 2 wards and thousands of population, around 15 people are suffering from kidney disease. While these people had tube wells, the villagers are using that water. People say that the risk of kidney disease increases after using this water. The administration has been accused of not trying to understand the plight of the people. There is a need to take measures to make the people disease-free.
