Legendary Singer Pankaj Udhas Dies At 72 After Prolonged Illness

Renowned Ghazal-playback singer and Padma Shri awardee, Pankaj Udhas, passed away at the age of 72 on Monday, February 26, 2024, after a prolonged illness. The singer took his last breath at 11 am in Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital, where he had been admitted for some time. The Udhas family confirmed the news through an official statement, revealing that Pankaj Udhas had been battling a prolonged illness.

Pankaj Udhas, born on April 17, 1951, in Savarkundla, Gujarat, India, comes from a musical family, with his elder brother, Manhar Udhas, being a successful Hindi playback singer in Bollywood. Pankaj Udhas moved to Mumbai and graduated from St. Xavier’s College before becoming well-known for his song “Chitthi Aayee Hai” from the film Naam (1986).

His illustrious career included multiple albums, global tours as a well-known Ghazal singer, composition of film music, and contributions as a playback singer. Known for the depth, emotion, and melodious tunes in his music, Pankaj Udhas received the Padma Shri award in 2006 for his exceptional contributions to the world of music and art.
