Sambalpur: Man Arrested for Murder of Ainthapali Courier Company Owner Over Unpaid Salaries of 2 Months
Sambalpur: Gopabandhu Behera alias Jiten (25), from Boudh Nayapada, was arrested on Saturday for the murder of LIC Colony’s Ranjit Sa alias Chotu Coolie (50), the owner of a courier company in Ainthapali, Sambalpur. This information was provided by Sadar SDPO Tofan Bagh during a press conference.
According to sources, Jiten worked for the deceased Ranjit. They were both living at the warehouse in Ainthapali. Jiten had two months of pending salaries due. They had an argument about this subject, which evolved into a dispute.
Around 3 a.m., an enraged Jiten hit Ranjit on the head with an iron rod. Ranjit’s head was smashed open, and he was bleeding readily. Jiten, believing he had killed Ranjit, took his phone and went to his grandmother’s house in Sindurpank, where he lived. He hid Ranjit’s mobile phone on the roadside.
Jiten received a call to keep the items on the bus, so he loaded them. He returned to the warehouse and shouted about Ranjit’s dead body, pretending to know nothing. When several people arrived, he told Ranjit’s wife about the situation. Later, the police were notified.
Ranjit was taken to the Sambalpur District Headquarters Hospital, but the doctor declared him dead upon arrival. Following a complaint from Ranjit’s wife, the police opened a case and began investigating.
Under the direction of Ainthapali police officer Sanjay Naik, the police team arrested Jiten within 8 hours of the murder. The iron rod used in the murder and the stolen phone were recovered. Jiten was previously arrested in Boudh for a minor offense and was released on bail. He has now been charged with Ranjit’s murder.
