Sambalpur: Nurse Shortage in DHH, “Emergency Ward” is in Emergency, Patients cannot be treated due to lack of staff

Sambalpur: The Emergency Ward of Sambalpur District Headquarter Hospital is in emergency.
Patients cannot be treated due to lack of staff. Some need injections and some need oxygen. How can one work at the same time? Because of which, the hospital is often subjected to the aggression of patient’s relatives. A nurse who works there described how a nurse still hears abuse even after working for 10/12 hours.

Keeping the name confidential, a nurse said, “We are working in the emergency department of Sambalpur DHH with 3 nurses in 3 shifts.” In this, if one goes on leave, the situation is terrible. 24 hours of work for 2 people. Not only the emergency, but also the patient has to be given an injection. Every day hundreds of people are coming to give injections and if someone comes to the emergency during this time, then the matter is over. The relatives will shout loudly saying that there is no one, will show red eyes. what can we do about it? She said that because of lack of staff, we are forced to listen to them and provide services to people. Meanwhile, a few days later, 45-50-year-old women came to the hospital. She needed oxygen immediately. She was also asked to give an injection. A nurse could not do two jobs at once about which patient relative’s expressed their displeasure regarding nurses.

Regarding such allegations, District Chief Medical Officer Dr. Parthachandra Sahu said, 2 nurses are required for each shift. Just like when one person is on vacation, the other person can take over. But due to lack of required staff, we have hired one nurse each. Despite the difficulties, this is going on due to lack of staff. But it will be resolved soon. According to the Indian Public Health Standard, 750 nurses will be recruited in the District Chief Medical Office soon. In addition, we have already started the process of recruiting 14 nurses for outsourcing. The CDMO said that it will be resolved further.
