Sambalpur: Okaya Fails to Repair Electric Scooty; Full Price to be Refunded Along with Lakhs in Fines
Sambalpur: Prashant Bhoi of Sambalpur RP Line bought an Electric scooty of Okaya Company from a showroom in Remed. In April 2022, he paid Rs 71,000 for the scooty, but within a few days, the scooty broke down. After repeated complaints, the showroom owner gave him an old battery and told him that the company had closed the showroom. He was also asked to go to the company’s showroom in Sonepur. Then the company’s engineer was in Sambalpur and told him to charge Rs 1000 for the repair. Even after Prashant agreed, the engineer did not provide the service. Forced, Prashant spent Rs 5,000 and repaired the scooty elsewhere.
With this, Prashant approached the Sambalpur District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission. The Commission Chairman Dr. Ramakanta Shatpathi and Member Sadananda Tripathi tried the case and blamed the Okaya Company for negligence in servicing and repairs. The Okaya Company has been ordered to refund the full amount of the vehicle within one month and take the vehicle away from Prashant. In addition, a fine of 1 lakh rupees and 10 thousand rupees have been ordered to be paid in connection with the management of the case. Lawyer Rahul Gupta handled the case on behalf of Prashant.
