Sambalpur: Sambalpur Gears Up for Monsoon with District-Level Disaster Management Meeting
Sambalpur: A district-level committee meeting on natural disaster management for the upcoming monsoon season was held in Sambalpur. The meeting was chaired by District Collector Akshay Sunil Agrawal. During the meeting, it was discussed to open the flood control room and provide separate reports on rainfall recording and data to the relief commissioner. Discussions were also held on gauge reading, opening flood gates, and preparing maps and charts.
Additional topics included monitoring at the unprotected and Balibandha Swiss gates/pumping stations, public health arrangements, animal health, flood relief centers, road communication arrangements, and identifying weak points in the river embankments. Preparations for storing food and other essential supplies, deploying country boats, using powerboats and other rescue equipment, clearing drainage systems, training employees, forming rapid response groups, organizing relief parties, involving voluntary organizations, and successfully conducting the annual mock drill in 2024 were also addressed.

The district collector instructed the concerned officials to conduct a detailed meeting on micro-management of disaster preparedness, involving public representatives, and focusing on the availability and functionality of equipment. The meeting was attended by CDO-cum-EO Dharmendra Mallik, Additional District Collectors Ajay Mahanti and Sucharu Kumar Bal, Sadar Sub-Divisional Magistrate Dr. Pushpanjali Panda, Kuchinda Sub-Divisional Magistrate Hemsagar Bhoi, CDMO Dr. Sujata Rani Mishra, and other key officials.
