Sambalpur: SMC’s Footpath Campaign; Cleared Yesterday, Occupied Again Today

Sambalpur: The Sambalpur Metropolitan Corporation (SMC) has started taking action to clear footpaths from encroachments as part of their “Footpath Campaign”. Many traders had occupied the footpaths in the city to set up their shops.

On Tuesday, the SMC took a strict approach and removed the encroachments from the footpaths from Lakhmitalkies to Golbazar Chowk. The prosecution team carried out this drive under the supervision of the SMC Commissioner Bed Bhushan.

However, even a day later, people started occupying the footpaths again. The commissioner had requested the traders to move to the vacant spaces in the vending zone behind the Ramsagar Bandh. But by nightfall, traders had started opening their shops on the footpaths between Lakhmitalkies to Golbazar again.

Despite the SMC’s efforts to clear the footpaths on Tuesday, the encroachments resurfaced the very next day, with traders setting up their shops on the footpaths once more.
