Sambalpur: Tragic Hit-and-Run Incident in Kainsir Leaves 1 Dead, 2 Critically Injured
Sambalpur: A disturbing hit-and-run happened in Sambalpur on Monday morning, killing one woman and seriously injuring two others. A careless car slammed three female workers near the Kainsir of Ainthapali police station, causing a tragic event.
The deceased has been identified as 38-year-old Sumita Munda, a resident of Talab Panchayat Jogipali Sarupada under Sason police station. Her sisters, Ratani Munda (25) and Samati Munda (38) were critically injured in the accident and rushed to Burla for medical treatment.
According to eyewitnesses, the three women were on their way to work in the Ainthapali region when a car (registration number OD 07AC 2335) ran into them near Kainsir Ghati Gadani from the Balbaspur side. Witnesses said that the vehicle intentionally hit the woman 3 times before fleeing the scene.
However, the driver’s escape attempt failed by local locals who caught him. In an eruption of rage, the mob beat the driver and destroyed the vehicle, smashing the glass. The Ainthapali police responded quickly and brought the situation under control.
Sumita Munda died from her injuries on the spot, while her sisters Ratani and Samati were taken to the hospital in critical condition. The driver, Tapas Ranjan Patra of Brahmapur, residing in Shantinagar, also sustained injuries in his encounter with the mob and was sent to Sambalpur District General Hospital.
Following a complaint filed by Sumita’s brother, the police registered a case and investigated the incident. Tapas Ranjan Pote was arrested on Monday and produced before the court.
