Sambalpur: The audacity of the agency that provide the gold medal to Sambalpur University has increased. The University Syndicate meeting has decided not to pay the arrears to the agency, while the agency is demanding the immediate payment of the gold medal bill. The gold standard and the amount of gold are examined then payment of arrears will be decided. The 31st convocation of Sambalpur University was held on April 22. At the same time, 33 gold medals were awarded each year for the 2020 and 2021 academic years, as well as 15 commemorative medals from both years. This means that a total of 96 students who excelled in various disciplines were awarded gold medals. The gold medal was brought from an agency in Kolkata.
Prior to the awarding of the gold medal, Rs 5 lakh was paid in advance by Sambalpur University. However, the agency has now sent a bill of Rs 12.5 lakh, according to Sambalpur University rules, the gold medal contains 2 grams of pure gold and the rest of the metal. However, the gold should have a purity of more than 23 carats, or more than 95.8 percent. A student suspected and her parents tested the purity of the gold medal from a well-known jewellery shop in Sambalpur. The gold medal weighed 7.528 grams, with a purity of 1.42 percent.
Many students dream of winning a gold medal from the governor and the chancellor at a convocation ceremony, winning first place in the university. However, Sambalpur University authorities have expressed concern over the awarding of the gold medal to them.
At the syndicate meeting, it was decided to examine the value of gold.”If the amount is correct, the arrears will be paid and if the amount is less than Rs 5 lakh, the rest will be paid by the agency,” he said.
