Sambalpur: Victim of cyber fraud in the name of electricity bill
Sambalpur: Another woman in Sambalpur district has become a victim of cyber fraud in the name of electricity bill. A cyber fraudster has withdrawn Rs 50,000 from the account of a woman in Ainthapali police station gate area.
According to police information, the woman received a message. In which it was written that if the remaining electricity bill is not paid, the electricity connection will be cut off tonight. The woman contacted the number given in the message, worried that the power connection would be cut. The cybercriminal then picked up the call, identified himself as an employee of Tata Power and asked the woman for various details. The woman proceeded to give all the information as requested by the fraudster.
She also gave the OTP. Then the cyber fraudster continued to deduct money from her account by making one transaction after another. A total of Rs 50,000 was deducted from her account by the fraudster. After finding out that she was a victim of fraud, she filed a written complaint at the Ainthapali police station on Wednesday. The police have registered a case and started investigating the incident. Another woman from khetrajpur police station area was similarly victimized by cyber fraud on Monday. The fraudster deducted 57 thousand rupees from her account.
