Sambalpur: Sambalpuri Handloom Gains Global Spotlight; Australian Deputy High Commissioner Wears Sambalpuri Coat

Sambalpur: The demand for handloom fabrics is rapidly increasing, both in India and abroad. Odisha’s handloom products, in particular, have gained global popularity. While handloom has traditionally been more appealing to women, it is now becoming a popular choice among men as well.

A Special Occasion with Handloom

On Handloom Day, Australian Deputy High Commissioner to India Nick MacCaffrey wore a Sambalpuri Pasapalli-designed coat to show his appreciation for Odisha’s rich textile heritage. With its stunning red and black color scheme, the coat became the day’s highlight.

Social Media Buzz

MacCaffrey took to social media platform X, wearing the Sambalpuri jacket, and posted a photo of himself. In the caption, he wrote, “I’ve never worn a more beautiful Sambalpuri jacket in my life.” What are your thoughts? “Does this red suit me?” He added the hashtag #LocalForVocal to demonstrate his support for traditional crafts.

Recognition from Odisha’s Government

The post quickly went viral, with Dr. Arvind Padhee, the Chief Administrator of the Handloom, Textiles, and Handicrafts Department, retweeting it. He praised MacCaffrey, saying, “You look magnificent in Odisha’s traditional handloom attire.” Dr. Padhee also expressed gratitude to the Deputy High Commissioner for promoting Odisha’s cultural heritage on such a global scale.
