Sambalpur: Slum Dwellers Protest Against Encroachment Eviction in Farm Road; Demand Housing as Compensation
Residents Prepare for a Strong Movement
Sambalpur: Residents of Farm Road in Sambalpur are strongly opposing the eviction drive. A meeting was held at Durga Mandap, where people from areas like Machh Bandh, Cheruapada, and Rohidas Nagar gathered to discuss the issue.
Why Are Residents Protesting?
Locals say they have been living in this area for many years. Recently, the administration issued a notice giving them just one month to vacate their homes and shops. This has left the residents extremely worried.
In the first phase of the eviction, notices were sent to several families and shop owners from Farm Road Chowk to Delhi Saw Mill (Station Road). At the same time, the road expansion work from Farm Road to the station is ongoing.

Residents’ Demands and Actions
A few days ago, local representatives met Revenue Minister Suresh Pujari at the RDC office and submitted a petition. However, as the deadline approaches, their anxiety is increasing.
Residents demand that before demolishing homes and shops, the administration must provide alternative housing or commercial spaces. They insist on a proper rehabilitation plan.
In today’s meeting, they decided to meet the District Collector, MLA, and Ministers soon to highlight their problems. People are still struggling to recover from previous demolitions, and the new notice has sparked widespread outrage.
Many daily wage workers live in this area. If their homes are demolished, they have nowhere to go. Former councillors like Ashwini Swain, Debraj Patel, Ravi Manohira, Rajin Swain, Jayant Pradhan, Kailash Podha, Prabhati Behera, Prabhasini Dash, and Bijili Patel attended the meeting.
