Warning: Don’t Answer Calls from +92, Says Department of Telecom

The Department of Telecom is cautioning people to avoid picking up calls from foreign numbers, especially those starting with +92, which is Pakistan’s country code.

They’ve issued this alert as cyber fraudsters are using these numbers to call via WhatsApp, trying to extract important information using threats. The Department emphasizes that these callers have one goal: to cheat people.

They’re urging everyone not to trust calls from foreign numbers. If you receive such a call, you can report it on the Sanchar Saathi portal (www.sancharsaathi.gov.in) or call the Cyber Crime Helpline at 1930.

There’s a concern that some of these callers are pretending to be government officials or telecom department employees to trick people into sharing information. The Department wants to make it clear that they never make such calls and advises everyone not to believe anyone asking for personal details over the phone.

It’s important to note that all local calls within India start with +91.
