Sambalpur: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi’s Visit to Sambalpur Ignores City Residents’ Problems; No Opportunity Given to File Complaints

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi’s Visit to Sambalpur
Sambalpur: On Friday, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi visited Sambalpur. During his visit, he attended official programs and also went to the residence of Bipin Bihari Nanda, a former RSS Prant Sangh Chalak and Prant Karyakarini member, at Govindtola. He offered condolences to Nanda’s family, who were mourning the demise of his wife. Additionally, the Chief Minister attended the Ekadashaha ceremony of the late Kumkum Mishra and paid his respects.
Several political leaders accompanied him, including Keonjhar MP Ananta Nayak, Panchayati Raj and Drinking Water Minister Rabi narayan Nayak, BJP State Organization Secretary Manas Mohanty, and former MLA Nauri Nayak.
Preparations for the Visit but No Benefits for Residents
In the days leading up to the Chief Minister’s visit, the district administration became highly active. However, despite all the preparations, the visit brought no tangible benefits to the residents of Sambalpur.
For the past two years, the road construction between Jail Chowk and Dhanupali Chowk has remained incomplete. The unfinished roadwork has created large potholes, leading to frequent accidents. Many residents have been injured due to these unsafe conditions, yet the administration remained silent.

Last-Minute Repairs and Poor Execution
Knowing that the Chief Minister was coming, authorities rushed to repair the potholes the night before. However, within just a few hours, the freshly laid patchwork started breaking apart, exposing the low quality of the work. This raised serious concerns about the effectiveness of the repair efforts.
The municipal commissioner has been actively attending meetings and events but has shown little interest in resolving these road issues. Instead of prioritizing infrastructure maintenance, officials have chosen to focus on formal events and conferences.
Restrictions on Complaints and Public Concerns
Residents wanted to express their grievances about the road conditions directly to the Chief Minister. However, the administration, along with a group of young volunteers, ensured that no one could approach him with complaints. Security was so tight that there was no opportunity for citizens to speak with him about their struggles.
Administration’s Lack of Initiative
Meanwhile, municipal and district officials continue to operate from their air-conditioned offices and attend formal meetings, instead of addressing real problems on the ground. If they took the time to visit different parts of the city, they would clearly see the challenges residents face.
If such a crucial and busy road in the city has been delayed for two years, one can only imagine the condition of roads in remote areas. The people of Sambalpur are now demanding immediate completion of this long-overdue road project.
