New Law to Prevent Question Paper Leaks & Cheating: 10 Years Jail and Rs.1 Crore Fine
According to the law, if a person is found guilty in a question paper leak case, they could face up to ten years in prison and a one crore rupee fine. Recent allegations of question paper leaks and irregularities have caused major disruptions in the NEET and NET exams. While the UGC-NET exam was canceled, 1563 students with grace marks will retake the NEET exam. Amid these controversies, the Central Government passed the Universal Examination Law-2024 on Friday night to prevent question paper leaks and irregularities in competitive exams. An official statement has been issued.
This step is considered significant in light of the ongoing debate over the leaked 2024 UGC-NET question paper. According to the statement, if someone is convicted of leaking question papers or tampering with answer sheets, they will face a minimum of three years and a maximum of ten years in prison, as well as a one-crore rupee fine. All offenses under this law will not be bailable. If an investigation reveals the involvement of a senior officer, they could face up to ten years in prison and a fine of up to one crore rupees.
